This is one of the coolest salons I’ve been to! Who would have thought it would be in the heart of good ol’ Tallahassee. There is such a great vibe here, as the stylist will agree. The owner of this cute little salon is Will Galotti. He is also a stylist. He wanted to create an environment that people felt comfortable in, and a place where there was no attitude. He was a stylist for about 2 years before he decided to buy Hair on Earth. I asked Will a few questions while he was blowing out a clients hair. I also talked to a stylist, Jordan. So I’ll be going back and forth between people, as I asked them some similar questions.
(me) Tell me what sets your salon apart from others in the area.
(will) There is no attitude here. Everyone is very laid back. Everyone that works here is a person, not a hair stylist.
(jordan) There is a casual attitude. It’s very easy going. There is no dress code so everyone can express individuality, yet there is still a cohesiveness and everyone works well together. Another great thing is that our clients vary from mom’s in SouthWood all the way to tattooed clients. (Jordan has been working at this salon for 8 years now, so you know they must be doing something right to keep her around!)
Just a side note. This salon offers brazilian blowouts, SO-CAP extensions, color, cuts, perms, brow and lip waxing, men’s cuts, and more!
(me) How many stylist work here?
(jordan) There are 8 full time, including Will. The great thing about us is that we aren’t a 10-6 kind of place. We will come in early or stay late if a client needs us to.
(me) Do you have a lot of brides come into your salon?
(will) We do have a lot! It is by season (which I can understand completely!) and we have our months where there are a ton of brides coming in.
(me) Do you have any advice for brides coming to your salon?
(jordan) We LOVE it if you bring in pictures from magazines or clippings. That way we can see what you’re looking for. Hair washed the night before (less conditioner) and wear a button up shirt.
(me) Do you offer any special services for the bride?
(jordan) If a bride books her whole wedding party to get their hair done by us, then we offer a complimentary trial. I highly recommend this! This way she gets to see it and make any changes if she wants to. We also get to time it out so that on the wedding day we know how long we need. We put on the veil during the trial so that she can see the whole look.
Will goes on to tell me that part of the reason his stylists are so great is because they are socially conscious and very active in charity. I didn’t tell you in the beginning, but this is actually why I chose this salon as one of my vendors. I had read about all they did for not only the community, but also other parts of the world. Hair on Earth is a drop off for Soles 4 Souls. They are also about to get involved in Dress for Success for the Tallahassee area. Will tells me that they will be holding a fashion show at the salon for the program. I will let you know when that is as it gets closer. They also donated hair to make hair mats to help clean up the oil spill. It’s so great to see a business in my town that wants to do more than make a profit. They want to be a part of something great, and they really are raising the bar for other salons.
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your salon for a little while. You are such gracious, beautiful people. I can’t imagine a bride, or anyone for that matter, wanting to go anywhere else!
This is the adorable Britney. You will see her when you first arrive.
Um…talk about gorgeous stylists…talk about Priscilla!
